day 34

Project presentation day! All the groups did better than the interim presentation according to Ms Neo. It was also a sign of relief that all of our assignments for project management module are completed and the only thing left for this core module is the final exam. Now we can chill out a bit and then rush our IS presentations the next few days.
After the presentation we went to Guang Gu Guang Chang to the “Yes, I Do” saloon. The service there is very good. It is one of the best services which I had experience so far in China. They are very patient with you and even serve you drink and bun after you finish cutting. My friends and I will most likely to go back again since the price is really cheap. For cutting and washing is only $25 RMB which is around $5 sing dollars. And for just washing alone is $15 RMB. Before I go, my hair is frizzy and dry but after the wash and cut, it became lighter and softer. At first i do not trust the chemicals in the shampoo used in China but after my friends went and came back with “more than satisfied” comments, I decided to give it a try and indeed it is good. Well, I’ve learnt that I can’t judge a book by its cover.










Reflection:
In the “Yes, I Do” saloon shop, they treat their customers as “royalties”. As you walk in the entrance, someone at the door will open it for you and follow by hair dressers standing in two straight rolls at each side greeting and welcoming you. I’ve to admit it was pretty embarrassing to enter as I had never experience such treatment before in Singapore. Providing more than hair dressing service, they provide some simple snacks and drinks for their customers and also they interact with their customers to know more about them. From there, they will keep track of their customers’ profiles. Since we were the few Singaporeans who frequent visit that shop, they know us well and they even know when we were going back to Singapore. My friend told me that her hair dresser did her perm very well. Although she said that her perm is done well already, the hair dresser insisted on making it better.

day 32 & 33

Day 32- Sun 4/4/10
Finally a day off school and cultural site visits. It was hectic the past few days when we had to be ready by 7.30am or 8am to be ready to set off. So we slept till noon, do some projects till late afternoon and went out.

Day 33- Mon 5/4/10
We did exam revision during PM lessons and after lessons all groups hurried back to the hostel to rush our projects as the deadline and presentation is TOMORROW!

day 31

Today's destination: Hubei art museum and Hubei Park(Dong Hu).

Hubei Provincial Museum (Chinese: 湖北省博物馆) is one of the best-known museums in China, with a large amount of State-level historic and cultural relics. Established in 1953, Hubei Provincial Museum is a crucial regional museum in China and the biggest comprehensive museum in the province, located on the bank of the East Lake. It houses most precious and important artefacts’ of Hubei. Abundant unearthed heritages of the Qu Jia Ling Culture and Warring States Period are especially prominent. Since 1999 a number of new buildings have been added.

According to what the tour guide told us was that during summer when the temperature can be as high as 45 degrees, many local will go to the Hubei Park /Dong Hu to “cool” or chill out.

Reflection:
In Singapore, the weather is always around 30 degrees and above and the common place where people will cool themselves is in some air-conditioned area. However, in China, Wuhan, it is interesting that they do not stay indoors with their air conditioned on but instead they like spending time outside by the lakeside to enjoy the natural cool breeze. But it is understandable why Singaporeans do not wish do go out in such warm weather is because in Singapore there’s no lake with cool breeze, as even the breeze from the beach is warm and humidity is so high.

day 30

Industrial site visit to Coca Cola factory and it was a pretty cool experience. The tour guide told us the different processes of producing the coke and also the history of the company and their involvement in Olympics.

The coolest part of the whole visit happens when we were about to leave the factory. We were walking out of the entrance already when someone passed the news that we can get free coke in teh fridge next to the reception counter. Everyone ran back and head straight towards the fridge and started grabbing the bottles of coke like as if they are "robbing" a bank! It was a funny scene and the staffs there think that we were mad.

Reflection:
I was really thrilled when I knew we were going to the Coca Cola factory as I have never been to any food factory before in my life. I went expecting to see the processes of how they produce the coke but to my disappointment they were cleaning up the factory. According to the guide she told us that they will stop production and do clean up once a while when there are enough stock in the warehouse. And it is base on luck whether do we come at the right timing. Therefore, we don’t get to see the processes but only listen to the guide explaining to us. It will be better if we get to see the actual thing as it will give us a better understanding.
However, I have learnt how Coca Cola became such a famous brand and also to be one of the first few international brands which penetrate into China’s market. The company did lots of marketing to promote their product such as participating in almost all big events such as the Olympics as one of the sponsors.

day 29- April's FOOL!

I really hope that my laptop crash and broken camera lens are April fool’s joke. SADLY, it is not! We had practical test today and it totally sucks for me. I guess firstly I don’t have enough practice and secondly, I’m not use to Ms Neo's laptop. The test is 10%!!! There goes my 10% flying away just like that. ): My answers are all so different from my friends and seriously I think I may fail this test. Goodness! I must work harder for my EXAM! WORK HARDER!!!

We went to Mai De Long/ Metro (German Company) to buy more food supplies as we heard that the things there are cheaper. The crazy thing was that we are required to get a “pass” in order to purchase their products. The pass is like a membership card and you have to apply for it which in other words you must be a local to get it. However we don’t have that “pass” and so we have to go and apply for a temporary one at the entrance.

Reflection:

The layout of the Metro is similar to IKEA's, however, the service there isn't as good as IKEA's. I'm not sure is it because of the country or is it the way they plan and handle the situation. To me, the "pass" which is required in order to purchase goods is redundant. Why must they restrict the number of buyers if they want business? It is very inconvenient for others to purchase goods if they so happen to forget to bring their "pass".

day 28

Today lesson started in the afternoon. Ms Neo went through with us practical test revision which we had done yesterday. Still unable to use my laptop, I am not able to check if I did the questions correctly or not! I had just revised from what my friend had. ): After that we watched this movie (which is about our lecture topic) on leadership. The movie is about Queen Elizabeth and how she ruled her kingdom. We were only shown certain parts of the movie to do our report on leadership. But I’m quite interested to watch the whole movie as it seems pretty interesting.

Later at night, around 11pm, we heard screams from downstairs. We were so curious and so we went to check out what was the commotion all about. There was a fight between this middle age man and woman outside our school compound. We had a clear view from our hostel balcony and saw that the man was swinging and grabbing the woman around and all she could do is scream and scream. They both seemed to know each other as the woman did not ran away when the man let go of her, but instead she kept on shouting at the man. My conclusion was that they may be breaking up or something as it looks like those typical couple fight, just that they are more violent.

Reflection:

Leadership is very important if you want to lead a group well. It can affect the attitude and behaviour of your group members and also the results of your objective. I’m truly inspired by how Queen Elizabeth led her army and her planning as a Queen.

I was very annoyed with the fight among those two couples because if they want to fight or argue, they should do it in a private place. We can hear them from our balcony which is like only separated by a road and a pavement. That shows how loud they were screaming in the middle of the night. Not only that, there were passer-by walking past them and not even helping the woman when she was being thrown around by that man. Overall I feel that this sort of behaviour should never happen in public.

LAPTOP CRASH!

MY LAPTOP CRASH!
Since my laptop crashed and all my journal for the past 6 days are in my laptop word documents, I can’t access it. Even my projects reports are inside and I have no backup at all I guess the only way out is to redo! L I’m very annoyed right now and I feel very bad borrowing my friend’s laptop to do all these WORK, when she also has to do hers. And guess what?! I have PRACTICAL TEST on Thursday! How on earth am I going to practice and do the test? ): SO SAD & ANNOYED!
